Remembering...

Beverly Hammond died March 31, 2014 Beverly Hammond, age 79 of Tomball, passed away March 31, 2014. The Addison family and staff of Magnolia Funeral Home extend condolences to her family. Beverly Faye Michel Hammond, born to Arlene May Hoffmann and John Floyd Michel on March 6, 1935, left this life on March 31, 2014. She is survived by her baby sister, seven children, seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew – all of whom will miss her dearly. At the age of 9, Bev noticed and admired a dark-haired boy in church. When she was 17, she got his attention during a church paper drive. While bending over to pick up some paper, she demonstrated her gracefulness with an accidental kick to his sensitive area, a story she loved telling. After this rocky beginning, their relationship blossomed, and she married this charismatic young man, Donald Harvey Hammond, and truly believed he was the light of her life. Together they raised seven children and never lost their sense of humor. Don preceded her in death on January 4, 2014, just three months ago, making their separation brief. Beverly loved music and had a beautiful voice. As a young adult, she was invited by numerous churches to sing as part of their services. Whether singing with the school choir, waking her children in the morning, or just going about her daily life, Bev always had a song in her heart and a melody on her lips.  Beverly was a wonderful example of love and compassion, always putting her children and others first. She nurtured her own children as well as many others and made a difference in so many lives. There was one exception to this unselfishness - when a bear was in the vicinity of her hike in Grand Teton National Park, her battle cry was “Every woman for herself!” Her family enjoyed never letting this story die. Bev’s nurturing side is also apparent in her motto, “If Mom's cold, everyone is cold, so put on a coat," applied whether it was 40 degrees or 80 degrees. Beverly was unassuming, never having the desire to be noticed but was happiest being the greatest cheerleader for the ones she loved. Even when faced with breast cancer and Parkinson’s disease, she preferred to cheer others on and not receive too much attention for herself. To aid her in facing these challenges with such positivity, Bev had an unwavering testimony of our savior Jesus Christ and his gospel. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a young mother, teaching her children "If you follow the teachings of the church you will find blessings and happiness you never dreamed possible." Mom also wanted her posterity to know "Troubles will help you grow - the church will help you to grow in the right direction. So accept both of them with an open heart and mind. And never lose your sense of humor. I know there is life after death; I'll see you when you get there! Until then--MAKE ME PROUD!"
